Arunodaya University (AU) honored Nabam Jerma, an NSS volunteer from the university, who took part in the Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path in New Delhi on January 26, 2023. AU Pro-Chancellor Prof. V N Sharma conferred the honor upon Jerma in his office chamber, accompanied by AU Registrar Sohan Kr Jha, CEO Dr. Kabita Upadhyay, NSS Coordinator Pankaj Bora, NSS Programme Officer Sujata Chetry, and faculty members.
Jerma, a sixth-semester BA (Sociology) student, was among four NSS volunteers representing Arunachal Pradesh at the month-long Republic Day parade camp in New Delhi. The other participating NSS volunteers were Veronica Padung from Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat; Tasuk Pusang from North East Frontier Technical College, Aalo; and Bikash Sharma from St Claret College, Ziro. Jerma and Padung were the two NSS volunteers from Arunachal Pradesh selected for the final contingent of the R-Day parade.
Prof. Sharma lauded Jerma's accomplishment, describing it as an inspiration not only for other students of the university but also for the entire state. He encouraged Jerma to share her experiences and insights gained during the month-long NSS camp and R-Day parade with fellow students. “Representing the state in the grand Republic Day parade alongside other NSS volunteers from across the country is a matter of great pride. It is also recognition of your selfless community service as an NSS volunteer of the university,” he stated.
Previously, NSS Coordinator Pankaj Bora highlighted that Jerma had actively participated in various NSS activities including blood donation camps, cleanliness and plantation drives, Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat programmes like Rashtriya Yuva Sangeet Sammelan, and Fit India Programme among others.
According to a press release, the National Service Scheme (NSS) is a central sector scheme of the Centre aimed at providing young students across the country with hands-on experience in community service delivery.
