The Atal Incubation Centre-Sikkim Manipal University Technology Business Incubator (AIC-SMUTBI) recently organized IGNITE, a notable gathering designed to propel innovation and business growth within the startup community in the North East. The event convened an array of delegates comprising mentors, notable figures from industry, academia, and fledgling enterprises at the Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) in Majitar.


Prominent attendees included Niranjan Demanna, VP of Corporate Social Responsibility at HDFC Bank; Utkarsh Mishra of Hero MotoCorp's Global Innovation team; and Gulshan Purswani, the Delivery Lead at Bosch Global Software Technologies. The assembly also featured illustrious members from the AIC-SMUTBI Board of Directors and dignitaries like Air Vice Marshal (Dr.) DC Agarwal VSM, Vice-Chancellor of SMU and Chairman of AIC-SMUTBI, as well as Hondala Gyaltsen SCS, Secretary of the Housing Department of the Government of Sikkim.


The occasion began with an inaugural address by Prof (Dr.) Tej Chingtham, CEO of AIC-SMUTBU, shone a light on the emerging innovative spirit in North-East India. Executives from HDFC Bank and Hero MotoCorp conveyed their insights on corporate social responsibility and sustainability. Underlining this confluence was a keynote from AVM (Dr.) DC Agarwal VSM discusses the extensive support rendered to startups by AIC-SMUTBI, among which is the HDFC CSR Parivartan Grant. A focal point of the symposium was the disclosure of the HDFC Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Parivartan Grant awardees, an accolade that acknowledged seven nascent enterprises for their substantial contributions to community development. Originating from six distinct northeastern states, these enterprises comprise Crafted Fibers from Sikkim, Green Biotech Ecosolutions Pvt. Ltd. from Manipur, Farmeasy Technologies Pvt. Ltd. from Assam, Eco Far from Mizoram, Jome Foods Pvt. Ltd. from Nagaland, Sharolyn Ecoempower (Maity Ghar) from Sikkim, and SS Bamboowala Pvt. Ltd. from Tripura. The exclusive anointment of AIC-SMUTBI as the solitary incubator in North East India for this grant signifies its crucial influence in fostering emerging companies in the region.


In tandem with this announcement, a boot camp workshop scrutinized various facets of business acumen, pioneering innovation, and modern technology, inviting active involvement from upwards of 30 startup entities in North East and North Bengal territories. Spearheaded by Gulshan Purswani of Bosch Global Software Technologies, also an advisor at AIC-SMUTBI, the workshop's primary objective was to polish entrepreneurial ventures' business frameworks and provide the founders with vital proficiency. Participants engaged in dynamic sessions and collaborative discussions aimed at establishing quantifiable objectives and augmenting their market strategies.


The gathering reached its zenith with compelling question-and-answer segments, bespoke mentoring provisions, and ample networking occurrences—establishing a solid groundwork for coaction and progression within the sphere of enterprise. AIC-SMBTBI’s efforts in igniting the essence of ingenuity and bridging efficacious connections emphatically reinforce its dedication to cultivating a new vanguard of pioneering start-ups within North East India’s economic landscape.
