Established in 1997 by the government of Tamil Nadu, Periyar University has emerged as a prominent institution with over 106 affiliated colleges under its umbrella. Situated in Tamil Nadu, this state university recently launched a new online portal, www.periyaredu.in, presenting an extensive selection of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The university is proud to hold a Grade A accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and has acquired both 12(B) status since 2005 and 2f status since 1998 from the University Grants Commission. Named in recognition of the highly regarded social reformer E.V. Ramasamy, Periyar University remains committed to promoting comprehensive student development and disseminating knowledge. In 2008, the institution adopted the Choice Based Credit System and began providing certificate courses in 2009. Offering a diverse range of online educational opportunities spanning science, arts, and humanities, students can opt for numerous online courses such as BA English, BCom, MA History, MBA, and M.Sc. Math. Undergraduate programs extend across three years comprising six semesters, while graduate programs occupy two years with four semesters. Students get access to learning resources such as animated modules, live sessions, recorded videos, web resources, interactive videos, discussion forums, lab environments, practice tests, and e-books. The exam structure consists of Continuous Internal Assessments (CIA) and online exams with MCQ and subjective questions. Students require laptops/desktops with cameras and good internet connectivity for online exams. Results are declared within 45 working days, with mark sheets generated within 15 working days from the result declaration date.

Courses offered by the university, fees and eligibility: 

In the 2023 placement drive at Periyar University, 20 Energy Science and Technology students secured jobs with INR 3.6 LPA packages. Top recruiters included Face-Prep, Satellite Solar, Conserve Solution, Sky Solar, and Tech Clustron Energy Private Limited. The NIRF report revealed that in 2022 placements, 181 out of 778 UG and PG students secured positions with median packages of INR 3.50 LPA and INR 3 LPA respectively.Top recruiters at the institution include Face-Prep, Satellite Solar, Infosys, HCL, Wipro Technologies, and Tata Consultancy Services.
